Animation Workshops
Steve Newton is the Workshop Leader for this exciting day which offers your children a wonderful plunge into the delights of ANIMATION. Over the past few years Steve has run many highly regarded workshops for ANIMATED EXETER, and would now like to share his expertise and creativity with your school.
ANIMATION is a magical process in its own right, but when the work is created by a class of children the effects are not only magical but inspire children who find it difficult to express themselves in more conventional ways.
The Creative Process can involve such varied skills as writing, drawing, sculpting, music, audio-visual design and computer literacy. In short, this day embraces so many possibilities that it is inclusive for all the varied personality types naturally gathered in a class, from the bold extrovert to the shyest of introverts.
STEVE will work with one group/class during the day offering opportunities to experience a range of 2D and 3D animation techniques. Depending on the size of the group and their age and ability these may include:

Using a combination of materials and techniques- creating 2D backgrounds and characters to tell a simple class story… a theme chosen by the class (or more often led by the topic that the class teacher wishes the class to study). |
• | Creating 3D plasticene heads on shoulders….to animate and interact…. |
• |
Jointed cardboard characters coloured with felt pens animated on specially produced backgrounds….. |
• |
Drawn animation techniques. |
The final animation can further increase your children’s self esteem, and enhance your schools reputation, by being shown on the internet or at festivals or by being used as a direct teaching aid in other classes or schools. Teamwork is a vital part of making any film and children can learn valuable lessons about how they can improve their joint creative effort if they co-operate. Other materials and ways of working may well be used during the day.
If your group has a particular need or wish- please ask- I am very adaptable. A copy of the days finished work will be available for the group to keep.
The work will be created using STOP MOTION PRO.
ALL MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED
Steve has a degree in Fine Arts, is a qualified Art Teacher, has Full Enhanced CRB Disclosure Approval, is a member of EQUITY and the GTC.
